Liverpool target Anthony Gordon is reportedly prepared to enter talks over a new contract at Newcastle United.

The 23-year-old enjoyed a stellar campaign in the Premier League for the Magpies during 2023-24, scoring 11 goals and providing 10 assists across 35 top-flight appearances.

Such impressive displays on the club scene earned Gordon the chance to represent England at this summer's Euro 2024 in Germany, with Gareth Southgate selecting the attacker in his 26-man squad.

Despite making the plane, the Newcastle winger failed to make an impact at the continental showpiece, featuring for just a single minute across the entire tournament.

The likes of Phil Foden and Bukayo Saka were preferred by Southgate on the wings, tasked with supplying the service for England's all-time leading goalscorer Harry Kane.

Newcastle to 'hold talks' over Gordon contract following Liverpool interest

According to Football Insider, Gordon could be preparing to commit his long-term future to St James' Park ahead of the upcoming January transfer window.

The report claims that Newcastle and the 23-year-old are set to enter new discussions over a long-term contract for the winger in the North-East.

It is understood that the Magpies have made securing the futures of Gordon, Alexander Isak and Bruno Guimaraes a key priority during this calendar year.

While the summer transfer window was open, it was stated that Liverpool were keen on snatching the ex-Everton youngster from Eddie Howe's squad.

A move to Anfield for Gordon never materialised, though, with the four-time international supposedly keen to extend his terms at Newcastle in the near future.

Newcastle form and England opportunity

Gordon has experienced a steady start to the 2024-25 Premier League campaign, finding the net in the 1-1 draw against Bournemouth on August 25.

Despite a goal contribution, there have been suggestions that the attacker's performances are down on the levels that he produced last season.

Regardless of various opinions, Lee Carsley deemed Gordon good enough to be involved in England's UEFA Nations League fixtures over the international break.

With Foden out of the squad and Jack Grealish still fighting back from Euro 2024 omission, the Newcastle winger could start when the Three Lions visit Republic of Ireland on Saturday evening.
