Barcelona and Bayern Munich have reportedly joined Real Madrid in the race for Liverpool defender Trent Alexander-Arnold.

The 26-year-old has spent the past fortnight on international duty with England, starting both UEFA Nations League B contests against Greece and Finland.

Alexander-Arnold operated at left-back on Sunday evening, when Lee Carsley's Three Lions recorded a 3-1 success at the home of Finland in Helsinki.

The defender has started each of Liverpool's seven Premier League matches at the start of the Arne Slot era on Merseyside, assisting once.

Since making his Reds debut in October 2016 under legendary boss Jurgen Klopp, Alexander-Arnold has turned out on 319 occasions for Liverpool, winning the Premier League and Champions League along the way.

Barcelona, Bayern Munich keen on Real Madrid-linked Alexander-Arnold?

According to talkSPORT, two new European powerhouses have entered the race for the services of Liverpool's Alexander-Arnold in the near future.

The report claims that La Liga giants Barcelona and German side Bayern Munich are both keen on securing the signature of the right-back in the summer.

With Alexander-Arnold's contract at Anfield expiring in June, he is free to discuss a summer move with foreign clubs as early as January.

It has been widely reported that Real Madrid are the frontrunners for the Englishman's talents, with Los Blancos supposedly making the acquisition of the player a key priority.

After his international exploits with England, Alexander-Arnold will be back on club duty as league leaders Liverpool host Chelsea in the Premier League on Sunday afternoon.

Who needs Alexander-Arnold the most?

Despite arguably already being at legend status in Merseyside, Alexander-Arnold's exit might not destroy Liverpool's short-term future due to the emergence of 21-year-old Conor Bradley.

Real Madrid suffered a major injury blow at right-back earlier this month, with Daniel Carvajal ruled out for the remainder of the campaign due to a cruciate ligament injury.

Vincent Kompany's Bayern do not have a nailed-on player in Alexander-Arnold's position, with responsibilities being shared between Konrad Laimer and Raphael Guerreiro over recent weeks.

Jules Kounde is the first-choice option for Barcelona at right-back, although 18-year-old Hector Fort started in that role last time out for the 3-0 win over Deportivo Alaves.
