Former England international Ian Wright believes that Daniel Sturridge can use the platform of the World Cup to outshine his Liverpool teammate Luis Suarez.
The Uruguayan won the majority of the plaudits for his play for the Reds last season as he notched 31 goals and won the PFA Player of the Year award, despite the excellent form of Sturridge.
However, Wright feels that the 24-year-old can rise to occasion in Brazil and fire the Three Lions to success.
Wright told The Mirror: "He's been in the shadow of Suarez. Whatever he does, he does brilliantly, but he's been in his shadow.
"So this is his opportunity, playing for his country, to outshine him, to show him what he's about. Put your chest out and show him.
"I think he's the kind of player who can respond to that."
Sturridge scored 22 goals in the Premier League last season.
