Sports Mole previews Saturday's Scottish Premiership clash between Livingston and St Mirren, including predictions, team news and possible lineups.
Sports Mole

Livingston will host St Mirren on Saturday at Almondvale Stadium, with each team hoping to start climbing away from the relegation zone and into the top half.

Both clubs have had a difficult start to the campaign, having only won one game each, but the visitors are currently unbeaten in their previous four matches.

Match preview

Livingston have had a tough season so far, with just one victory to their name at the moment which came on matchday six when they defeated Celtic.

Andrew Shinnie was on target that day to fire the Lions ahead and give them the 1-0 win that they desperately needed, with those three points being the only reason they are not bottom of the league.

Dundee and Ross County sit below them at the moment, however, the margins are tight and a defeat at the weekend could easily see them slip to the foot of the table.

Because of that, David Martindale will be desperate to see his team get back on track, especially since a win has the potential to see them overtake their opponents.

However, Livingston have lost their last two games, which included them being knocked out of the Scottish League Cup, without scoring a goal in the process.

Having only found the back of the net three times in the league, there is a clear problem for the Lions that they are going to have to overcome soon in order to survive this season.

Their most recent outing was certainly one to forget as they travelled to face Hearts, suffering a 3-0 loss on the day, and the squad will be keen to respond this weekend.

On the other hand, the visitors have been picking up points consistently as of late due to the fact they are undefeated in their last four matches.

However, three of those games were draws and much like the Lions, St Mirren have only won a single game so far in the Scottish Premiership, which is a cause for concern.

That victory did take place in their most recent performance, though, and Jim Goodwin will want a repeat of the efforts he saw against Aberdeen at the weekend.

The game was a five-goal thriller and, despite taking the lead in the 14th minute, the Buddies had to then fight from behind to earn the three points.

A brace from Connor Ronan and a goal from Curtis Main proved to be enough to secure the victory, which is something that Goodwin's team have certainly earned after drawing four of their opening seven games in the league.

However, they will be wary of the fact that Livingston did beat them earlier this season when they met in the second round of the Scottish League Cup.

It took an 82nd-minute goal from Conor McCarthy to get the Buddies back into the game after they had initially fallen behind, but it was the Lions who progressed that day via penalties.

Team News

Bruce Anderson was used as a substitute in the defeat against Hearts, and due to Livingston's lack of goals, he could be handed a start at the weekend in order to shake things up.

Stephane Omeonga was dropped to the bench on Saturday after previously making his debut, but he was brought on during the game and he could have worked his way back into the team for the clash with St Mirren.

Goodwin was without Dylan Reid for the victory against Aberdeen at the weekend, as he was unavailable due to injury, and this could provide an opportunity for Ethan Erhahon to retain his place in the team.

Greg Kiltie still remains a long-term absentee due to his knee problem, but after winning their first game of the season, St Mirren could field an unchanged starting XI.

Livingston possible starting lineup:
Stryjek; Devlin, Obileye, Fitzwater, Penrice; McMillan, Holt, Williamson, Lewis; Anderson, Shinnie

St Mirren possible starting lineup:
Alnwick; Fraser, McCarthy, Shaughnessy; Erhahon, Millar, Tanser, Ronan, Power; McGrath, Brophy

We say: Livingston 0-2 St Mirren

Livingston have struggled for goals this season, and that is something that is likely to cause them problems again this weekend.

The visitors are in terrific form at the moment, and coming off their first win in the league, it is likely that St Mirren should have enough firepower to make it consecutive wins.
