Lyon have defeated Real Betis 1-0 in their Europa League match at the Stade de Gerland.
Salva Sevilla had the chance of the evening, as he forced Betis goalkeeper Remy Vercoutre into a save from his powerful strike.
Alexandre Lacazette was guilty of two misses in quick succession, firstly firing a volley wide after he was picked out at the back post by Steed Malbranque, before missing the target from close range.
At the end of the first half, Lyon came close to taking the lead, when Stephan Andersen saved Lacazette's effort.
The visitors started the second half strongly and Chuli should have scored when he hit the post after taking the ball round Vercoutre.
Betis were made to pay for that missed chance as minutes later the hosts took the lead. After a fine passing move, Yoann Gourcuff was found inside the box, before sliding a ball across the middle for Bafetimbi Gomis to tap home.
Gomis came close to adding a second for Lyon, but after working his way to the edge of the box, his final shot lacked any power to beat the keeper.
In the closing minutes Betis came close when Markus Steinhofer saw his deflected effort go wide, but Lyon held on to claim all three points.
