Lyon manager Remi Garde has admitted that his side were "awful" as their pursuit of Paris Saint-Germain and the Ligue 1 title was halted by Lille yesterday.
Garde's side suffered their second successive league defeat after being outplayed at home to Lille in a 3-1 defeat to Rudi Garcia's improving team.
The former Arsenal defender has put Lyon's disappointing defeat down to lack of determination and admitted that his reliance on academy players backfired badly.
He told reporters: "Today we underperformed as a team particularly in the first half where we were awful.
"Obviously Lille deserve some credit for making it hard for us, but my team did not show all the commitment I would expect from them. Tonight we were deservedly punished by a very good team.
"I am very disappointed tonight. The lack of energy and effort which the players have shown is very disappointing. I think the team were lacking in experience tonight. We used a lot of players from our academy and obviously that can be an advantage sometimes."
Paris Saint-Germain now have a six-point lead at the top of Ligue 1, with Lyon two points ahead of Marseille in second place.
