Malmo's Markus Rosenberg scored the only goal of the game as Malmo overcame Shakhtar Donetsk at the Swedbank Stadion this evening.
Captain Rosenberg struck in the 18th minute when he steered Pa Konate's low cross past Donetsk keeper Andriy Pyatov.
Brazilian midfielder Fred then shot just outside Johan Wiland's post after being set up by Marlos and Oleksandr Gladkiy as Shakhtar went into half time at a one-goal disadvantage.
Jo Inge Berget missed the opportunity to double Malmo's lead immediately after half time as he latched on to Nikola Djurdjic's through-ball, lifted the ball over Pyatov but watched it travel just wide.
Shakhtar captain Darijo Srna then pulled Berget back in the box to give Djurdjic a chance from the penalty spot.
The on-loan striker saw his 56th-minute penalty saved by the Shakhtar keeper as Malmo missed the chance to increase their lead.
Srna conceded a free kick minutes later which was curled into the box by Vladimir Rodic.
The post was hit, but by a player rather than the ball, as Rosenberg flew into the upright in his attempts to meet Rodic's cross.
Djurdjic attempted to set Rosenberg free but Pyatov cleared the pass straight back to the Serbian, athough his attempted chip landed straight in the keeper's gloves.
The 77thminute saw Shakhtar find the back of the net only for substitute Eduardo's effort to be ruled out for offside.
Taras Stepanenko then missed a late chance to give his side a point, as Srna crossed for the midfielder who could not react in time to guide the ball into the net from six yards out.
Malmo stay in third position in Group A but are now three points clear of bottom side Shakhtar.
