Thierry Henry backs Pep Guardiola to shape Manchester City into Champions League winners during his three-year stay at the Etihad Stadium.

Thierry Henry has backed Pep Guardiola to guide Manchester City to Champions League glory during his three-year spell at the club.

On Monday, City announced that Guardiola will take charge at the Etihad Stadium in the summer when he ends his contract at Bayern Munich.

The former Barcelona boss will replace Manuel Pellegrini, who confirmed his upcoming departure this afternoon.

Henry spent two years working under Guardiola at Camp Nou, and the Frenchman believes that he can help City thrive in Europe.

"If they don't win the Champions League this year, I think in the three years [with Guardiola] they will be very close to winning it," Henry told Sky Sports News.

"There is one thing you can be sure of, he wants to dominate, and every time people associate his teams with the amount of goals that he scores, but his teams also don't concede a lot, and that's not mentioned a lot.

"He always wants to be on the front foot, having the ball, possession, as we know, and he wants to dominate, so well done, Manchester City."

As a manager, Guardiola has won the Champions League twice - both times with Barcelona.
