Manchester City defender Nicolas Otamendi has insisted that the team must beat Borussia Monchengladbach in their Champions League clash on Wednesday.
The Premier League side will travel to the Bundesliga outfit off the back of a home defeat to Juventus in their opening match of the tournament a fortnight ago.
Otamendi has said that City cannot afford to let any more points slip in Group D if they want to progress to the next stage.
"When you look at the quality and standard of players at this club it's almost demanded of us to be competing in Europe at the highest level," the Argentine told the Manchester Evening News.
"Once you are in Europe you have to be at your absolute best to compete in that competition too. We're under no illusions that the only option we've got is to go out and get three points – it's a must-win game."
City were knocked out in the last-16 stage by Barcelona last season.
