Pablo Zabaleta says that Manchester City's win against CSKA Moscow could prove vital in their qualification to the Champions League knockout stages.

Manchester City defender Pablo Zabaleta believes that his side's win against CSKA Moscow on Wednesday will prove to be crucial in them qualifying for the knockout stages of the Champions League.

Sergio Aguero scored twice in Khimki to help Manuel Pellegrini's side win 2-1 and go second in Group D.

"We knew before the game that it was going to be really tough and the conditions were really difficult," UEFA.com quotes him as saying. "I think we played well and it was a good performance.

"The three points are very important for us to keep progressing. This match was worth 50% of the qualification for the next round and we won, so I am really happy.

"We know that Sergio is one of the main players in our team. He is in great form and it is very important for us that he is playing well for our team."

Bayern Munich lead Group D with nine points from three matches.
