Manchester City welcomed the visit of Sevilla in Group D of the Champions League, as Manuel Pellegrini's men sought to earn their first home win in the competition this season.

Sevilla started positively and they soon found an opener through Yevhen Konoplyanka, before an own goal from Adil Rami saw City pull level before the break.

It looked as though the Spaniards had done enough to steal a point, only to be denied late on as Kevin De Bruyne notched a memorable late winner for the Sky Blues.

MANCHESTER CITY

Goal

Joe Hart: Was almost beaten at his near post in the first half, but did his best to stand firm amid countless balls into the box. Almost gave up possession in a costly position late on. (5/10)

Defence

Pablo Zabaleta: Did his best to get forward and support his attackers when possible, before eventually being substituted by Pellegrini in order to bring some balance at the back. (6/10)

Nicolas Otamendi: Might have been a little tighter with his marking and organisational work. Failed to monitor the movement of Konoplyanka for Sevilla's goal. (6/10)

Eliaquim Mangala: Was forced to produce some superb late stoppages to deny the Sevilla forwards in the first half, as City were offered very little in the way of protection in front of the defence. (7/10)

Bacary Sagna: Defended well and also managed to break forward on several occasions in an attempt to find Bony in the box. Was later moved over to right-back and settled well at short notice. (7/10)

Midfield

Fernandinho: The holding man was largely ineffectual for much of the encounter and failed to provide the required industry to help his defenders as they came under increasing pressure when Sevilla had the ball in the final third. (5/10)

Yaya Toure: Showed glimpses of his brilliance with a number of trademark bursts forward, but again offered little in the way of defending for the hosts. Held his nerve to pick out a fantastic ball for De Bruyne late on, though. (6/10)

Raheem Sterling: The youngster started the game brightly and caused a number of problems going down the left, but he faded in the second half and produced a number of poor passes in the latter stages. (6/10)

Kevin De Bruyne: Proved to be the match-winner for the Sky Blues and was at the heart of most forward-moving plans. Started well and showed great fight to keep going despite fluffing his lines on a few occasions. Brilliant finish for the goal and has now given City a huge chance of qualification. (9/10)

Jesus Navas: Got into some good positions down the right flank, although he was unable to provide the required quality to hurt his former club. Will need to improve on his accuracy from balls into the box if City want to cause problems from the right. (5/10)

Attack

Wilfried Bony: Was largely anonymous up top as much of the forward play was undertaken by De Bruyne and Raheem Sterling. He did, however, show some effective positioning to help push his side back on level terms in the first half. Might have scored before that too following Sterling's ball into the middle. (6/10)

Substitutes

Aleksandar Kolarov: Brought on to provide some balance at the back and he proved effective going down the left. Defended well and also created a number of promising moves in the final third of Sevilla's half. (7/10)

Fernando: Was introduced into the contest to allow for some changes in attack and he showed some good strength in the middle to settle City as they pushed for a winning goal. (6/10)

Vincent Kompany: Introduced far too late in the game to have an impact on proceedings. (6/10)

SEVILLA

Goal

Sergio Rico: The visiting stopper had very little to do despite being on the end of a defeat. Showed good command of his area, before being undone by a deflection and a world-class finish. (6/10)

Defence

Coke: Was fairly impressive going forward down the right, and also did well to stifle Sterling when he played out on the left. Did his best to get some impactful balls into the box, but was let down by his striking options. (6/10)

Benoît Tremoulinas: The left-back proved to be one of Sevilla's standout players as he created a number of dangerous chances with balls into the box. He would have found some assists had Kevin Gameiro been more clinical in the area. (8/10)

Adil Rami: Will be disappointed having conceded an own goal, although he was commanding at the heart of defence all evening and showed great positioning to thwart City's attack on numerous occasions. (7/10)

Timothee Kolodziejczak: Worked well alongside Rami and put an end to several City attacks. Might have done a little better with his positioning for both goals, though. (6/10)

Midfield

Grzegorz Krychowiak: Provided some required steel in the middle of the pitch and also started a number of forward moves from the visitors. Should have pressed harder for the late winner. (6/10)

Vicente Iborra: Much like Grzegorz Krychowiak, he could have done better for De Bruyne's goal. Instead of pushing him out of the box, he approached the Belgian with his hands behind his back and allowed the makeshift striker to get his shot away. (5/10)

Ever Banega: Looked composed when on the ball and he also crafted some clever passes to set his attackers in behind the City defence. Was unlucky to be substituted. (6/10)

Vitolo: The midfielder showed great awareness to beat the offside trap and square for Konoplyanka in order to secure the club's goal in the first half. Faded slightly and became less of an influence in the second period. (6/10)

Yevhen Konoplyanka: Fantastic performance from the winger, who was everywhere inside the City half. Took his goal adroitly and might have had another to his name had he not been denied by the post in the first period. (8/10)

Attack

Kevin Gameiro: This will clearly be a night to forget for the frontman, who missed countless chances to earn a point or three for his team. His poor header over the bar from close range in the second half might leave him with a few sleepless nights. (5/10)

Substitutes

Mariano Ferreira: Brought on with just six minutes to go in the game and had very few chances to make an impact. Almost embarrassed Joe Hart late on, although he could not make the most of the keeper's blunder. (6/10)

Michael Krohn-Dehli: Produced a strong showing off the bench and helped to push the visitors forward in the second half. Might have found a second goal for the Spaniards, only to see his driven shot deflected wide of the target. (7/10)

Steven N'Zonzi: Was only given 12 minutes in the middle of the park, but he might have done better to get back and put some pressure on City as they pressed for the winner late on. (6/10)
