Manchester City claimed a 2-0 victory over Roma to reach the last 16 of the Champions League this evening.

Samir Nasri fired in to give City the lead and a late goal from Pablo Zabaleta sealed the win.

Here, Sports Mole has rated the performances of each of the players on show at the Stadio Olimpico.

ROMA:

Goal

Morgan De Sanctis: Made a couple of good saves in the first half from Milner, but he had no chance with Nasri's stunning goal. (7/10)

Defence

Maicon: The full-back looked to charge down the right flank all evening, but he was unable to get involved in any of his team's attacks. (6/10)

Mapou Yanga-Mbiwa: Had a strong game at the back and coped with the physical threat of Dzeko. Was comfortable in possession and never beaten for pace. (7/10)

Kostas Manolas: Just like Yanga-Mbiwa, the Greek had a decent game at the back. He almost brought Roma level with a great header, but was unlucky to see it come back off the post. (7/10)

Jose Holebas: Should have done better when played through on goal early on. He had plenty of time, but fired straight at Hart. Was also given a tough game by Navas, who constantly got in behind him. (5/10)

Midfield

Radja Nainggolan: Was always good on the ball and played some stunning passes, including a raking cross-field ball over the top for Gervinho. Tested Hart with an effort from range and showed some neat touches. (7/10)

Miralem Pjanic: Not the best of games for the Bosnian, who struggled to get on the ball. He did whip in a great free kick that Manolas headed onto the post, but it was a rare positive moment. (6/10)

Seydou Keita: Use the ball well and always looked to play out from the back. He didn't get involved too much further up the pitch. (6/10)

Attack

Adem Ljajic: Had a good chance to score shortly after his side conceded, but blazed over when well-placed. Struggled to impose himself on the game and was replaced by Iturbe midway through the second half. (6/10)

Francesco Totti: The Roma captain was unable to have any impact on the match. Apart from an early through ball to Holebas, he was largely an anonymous figure before his exit. (6/10)

Gervinho: One of Roma's best players on the night. The Ivorian caused the City defence plenty of problems in the first half and came close on a couple of occasions before fading after the break. (7/10)

Substitutes

Juan Iturbe: Hardly made any impact after coming on. (5/10)

Alessandro Florenzi: Struggled to get into the game and his distribution let him down. (6/10)

Mattia Destro: Saw an effort cleared off the line in the closing stages. (6/10)

MANCHESTER CITY:

Goal

Joe Hart: The keeper made a number of fine saves throughout the night. He stopped Gervinho and Holebas in the first half and his decision making was always spot on. (8/10)

Defence

Pablo Zabaleta: The Argentine struggled against Gervinho in the first half but he gradually managed to contain the Ivorian. Sealed the victory for City with a composed finish in the final minutes. (7/10)

Eliaquim Mangala: Was not troubled too much by the Roma attack, who rarely got in behind. Showed good pace to keep up with Gervinho and was strong in the air. (7/10)

Martin Demichelis: Experienced display from the veteran defender who never put a foot wrong. Was not given too many problems by Totti and cleared a goal-bound effort off the line to help his team claim the win. (7/10)

Gael Clichy: The Frenchman got forward as often as possible to help City down the left. He delivered a number of telling crosses and he was also solid in defence. (7/10)

Midfield

Fernando: The midfielder was always strong in the challenge and helped to break up a number of Roma attacks. (7/10)

Fernandinho: Powerful showing from the Brazilian. Never stopped running and was a rock in front of the defence. (7/10)

James Milner: Had a couple of chances to score, but his efforts were saved by the keeper. Always used the ball smartly and helped City to keep hold of possession in the closing stages. (7/10)

Attack

Jesus Navas: The Spaniard was a constant thorn in Roma's side. He was particularly impressive in the first half, when he got in behind Holebas down the right on a number of occasions. (8/10)

Samir Nasri: His wonderful goal proved to be the difference this evening. It was a sensational strike that few keepers would have stopped. He also set up the second goal and showed plenty of quality touches in an all-round fine display. (8/10)

Edin Dzeko: The Bosnian led the line well and helped to bring his teammates into play. He was eventually replaced by Jovetic after giving his all to the cause. (7/10)

Substitutes

David Silva: The Spaniard made his return from injury and was a positive influence for his side, helping them to keep hold of the ball and maintain their lead. (7/10)

Stevan Jovetic: Replaced Dzeko for the final 12 minutes and helped City to run down the clock. (6/10)

Aleksandar Kolarov: Was unable to make an impact after coming on in the final minute. (6/10)
