Bayern Munich progress to the knockout stage of the Champions League as group winners despite losing 3-2 to Manchester City.

Manchester City have come from 2-0 down to beat Bayern Munich 3-2 in their final Champions League group stage match.

The home side were ahead within five minutes of kickoff when Thomas Muller controlled a long ball into the box from Dante before drilling it in low past Joe Hart.

Mario Gotze doubled the lead for the defending champions just seven minutes later, converting from a corner won following a move from Franck Ribery.

Bayern continued to create the majority of the chances, but David Silva scored on his return from injury against the run of play just before the half-hour mark to keep the visitors in contention.

Gotze and Muller both had chances to add their second of the night just before the break, but a save from Hart and a block by Martin Demichelis ensured that City were just a goal down at half time.

Manuel Pellegrini's men fought hard after the break, and were rewarded in the 58th minute when they were given a penalty after James Milner was brought down by a challenge from Gotze.

Aleksandar Kolarov stepped up to take the spot kick, coolly slotting it past Manuel Neuer to get the visitors back on level terms.

City were ahead three minutes later after Jerome Boateng allowed a Jesus Navas cross to drop for Milner, who hit it first time on the move to put his team in front for the first time.

Dante came close to gifting Alvaro Negredo a fourth goal for the away side late on the game, but the defender just managed to force the striker's effort wide, leaving him a difficult angle before Neuer completed the save.

Despite the result, City remain second in the group, with Bayern finishing the campaign on top.
