Sports Mole assesses Cardiff City's 3-2 win over Manchester City in the Premier League.

Cardiff City marked their first ever Premier League match at the Cardiff City Stadium with a thrilling 3-2 win over Manchester City on Sunday.

Edin Dzeko put the visitors ahead at the start of the second half before Aron Gunnarsson drew the hosts level.

Fraizer Campbell then scored twice to put Cardiff in control, but they had to weather out a nervy final few minutes following Alvaro Negredo's late goal.

Here, Sports Mole takes a closer look at the action in the Welsh capital.

Man City:

Was the result fair?

It was a very even contest between the two sides, but anyone who watched the encounter will tell you that Cardiff's tireless display throughout nearly the entire 90 minutes was enough to earn them a deserved win. Manchester City could well have got something out of the game, only for Cardiff to seize the victory with sheer determination.

Cardiff's performance

Malky Mackay is sure to be delighted with his players after what was a monumental effort against the might of Manchester City. Defensively they were courageous, the midfield was dogged, while there was plenty of menace in attack. If they can produce something near this kind of display every week then they will be just fine.

Man City's performance

While Manuel Pellegrini's side showed lots of attacking intent, particularly in the second half, it was their defensive frailties that ultimately cost them. The absence of Vincent Kompany proved to be fatal as Javi Garcia and Joleon Lescott looked nervy for much of the match against a zippy Cardiff attack. They got an easy ride against Newcastle United on Monday, but this was a different test for them.

Sports Mole's man of the match

Fraizer Campbell: The striker was a constant pest for the Manchester City defence, making clever runs in behind while getting into them whenever he could with a surprisingly physical approach. His two goals secured the points for Cardiff, and this will be an afternoon that he will not forget in a hurry.

Biggest gaffe

Joe Hart's error for Cardiff's second goal was a poor one, flapping at the ball from a corner to allow Campbell to bundle the ball home. Manuel Pellegrini should expect plenty of questions about the shotstopper in the next week.

Referee performance

Lee Probert added to what was a thrilling spectacle by refusing to issue any yellow cards. He rarely blew up for fouls, and that allowed the match to be played at a frantic pace.

What next?

Cardiff: The Bluebirds travel to Accrington Stanley on Wednesday in the second round of the Capital One Cup.

Man City: The Blues return to action on Saturday when they host Hull City in the Premier League.
