Brentford forward Ivan Toney will have the chance to set a new goalscoring record in Tuesday's Premier League match against Manchester City at the Etihad Stadium.

The Bees are bracing themselves for another tough test after they fell to a heavy 4-1 defeat in Saturday's home clash with leaders Liverpool.

Having now lost three of their last four matches, Brentford are currently sitting in 14th place and five points above the relegation zone.

Although the Bees experienced a disappointing result at the weekend, Toney managed to find the net in the 75th minute to continue his fine run of form.

The England international has now scored in four of his five appearances since returning from an eight-month betting ban for breaching the Football Association's betting rules.

Incidentally, the only time that he failed to find the net in those five matches was in a 3-1 defeat to Man City in the reverse fixture earlier this month.

The 27-year-old will be hoping for better fortunes against the Citizens in the midweek contest, especially as he has the chance to break a goalscoring record.

After finding the net in the last two away matches, Toney could become the first Brentford player to score in three consecutive Premier League away games.

Toney will take confidence from the fact that he enjoyed a successful outing in his only previous away appearance against Man City.

The striker scored a 98th-minute winner to wrap up a brace and a 2-1 victory in Brentford's most recent trip to the Etihad Stadium in December 2022.

As a result of that victory, the Bees have the opportunity to become just the second club to win consecutive away league games against a team managed by Pep Guardiola.

A victory on Tuesday would see Brentford join Manchester United, who previously achieved the feat in 2019-20 and 2020-21.

The visitors will have to face the European champions without the defensive qualities of Ethan Pinnock after Frank revealed that the centre-back will be out until after the international break due to an ankle problem.

Pinnock has joined an injury list which includes Aaron Hickey, Rico Henry, Josh Dasilva, Bryan Mbeumo and Kevin Schade. body check tags ::
