Roberto Mancini: 'Strikers must start scoring'

Manchester City manager Roberto Mancini says that he has reasons behind the substitution of Carlos Tevez against Everton this afternoon.

Manchester City manager Roberto Mancini has told his striking quartet that they must start scoring more goals.

The Citizens were held at home by Everton this afternoon, with their only goal coming from the penalty spot.

With a combined cost of over £100m, Sergio Aguero, Carlos Tevez, Edin Dzeko and Mario Balotelli have notched just 18 goals between them in 15 games this season.

Despite the poor return, the Italian coach said that he was satisfied with the effort of his strikers and believes that the goals will soon follow.

"In this moment we are not very strong with our strikers," said Mancini. "We need them to score more goals. They are four top strikers but this can happen during the season.

"It is important they work hard like they worked today. Dzeko, Tevez, Sergio [Aguero], Mario [Balotelli] - in this moment we are like this but I think we will solve this problem."

Mancini also said that he understands the supporters' frustration when Carlos Tevez was taken off instead of Edin Dzeko, but stressed that he knew what he was doing.

"I have my reason for this," he added. "I am not stupid. I understand the supporters."

Second-placed City are three points behind local rivals Manchester United.
