Premier League champions Manchester City have been held to a 1-1 draw by Everton at the Etihad Stadium.
Everton controlled the game for most of the first half, although neither side created many chances in the early stages.
It wad the Toffees who broke the deadlock on 33 minutes as Marouane Fellaini saw his bullet header well saved by Joe Hart before the Belgian reacted quickly to drill the ball into the net from the rebound.
Fellaini's joy was short-lived though, as he gifted the hosts a way back into the match on the stroke of half time by conceding a penalty following a pull on Edin Dzeko's shirt.
Carlos Tevez stepped up from 12 yards to easily slot the ball past Tim Howard to level the scores.
The equaliser meant that City started the second half with renewed confidence as Everton struggled to keep the ball as they had done in the first 45 minutes.
Maicon tested the reflexes of Howard with a powerful drive following a weaving run but the American did well to push the ball to safety.
Chances were rare as the match entered its latter stages, with Hart's save from Nikica Jelavic's free kick proving crucial as the points were shared.
