Huddersfield Town boosted their Premier League survival hopes with a goalless draw at Manchester City in Sunday's Premier League clash at the Etihad Stadium.

Huddersfield gave City a guard of honour ahead of the match, but the Terriers showed no respect during the 90 minutes as they secured a hard-earned point against the champions.

The draw has seen David Wagner's side move three points clear of the relegation zone with two matches of the 2017-18 campaign left to play.

City boss Pep Guardiola made two changes to the team that started against West Ham United last time out, with John Stones and David Silva coming in for Aymeric Laporte and Ilkay Gundogan.

As for Huddersfield, head coach Wagner brought in Chris Lowe and Tommy Smith, with Rajiv van La Parra and Collin Quaner dropping out.

David Silva had City's first opportunity of the match in the fifth minute, but the Spaniard could not force the ball beyond Huddersfield goalkeeper Jonas Lossl.

Aaron Mooy then struck wide of the home side's post in the 11th minute, before Florent Hadergjonaj tested Ederson from inside the penalty box as Huddersfield pressed for the first goal at the Etihad Stadium.

Chances were coming at either end, and Kevin De Bruyne struck just past Lossl's post in the 13th minute, before Ederson had to fly across his goal to keep out a long-range Alex Pritchard attempt.

Lowe was next to come close for Huddersfield as the number 15 forced a smart save from Ederson in the 30th minute, with the early noise from the City supporters quietened by the impressive visitors.

Lossl made another decent save to keep out a strike from De Bruyne 10 minutes before the break, and the two teams headed down the tunnel at 0-0 following a strong half from the battling Terriers.

The Huddersfield goalkeeper failed to collect a corner early in the second period as City came close to taking the lead, but towering centre-back Christopher Schindler managed to clear his lines.

The home side continued to dominate the ball, but they were finding it difficult to create opportunities, and Huddersfield remained comfortable as the final 20 minutes approached.

Gabriel Jesus headed over the away side's crossbar in the 80th minute as Huddersfield escaped a dangerous moment, before Bernardo Silva flashed one wide of the post in the 84th minute.

Benjamin Mendy then struck over the crossbar two minutes later as opportunities continued to arrive, but Huddersfield almost won it in the closing moments when Scott Malone broke into the City box, only to fire straight at Ederson as the points were shared at the Etihad Stadium.

MAN CITY (4-3-3): Ederson; Walker, Stones (B.Silva 73'), Otamendi, Delph (Mendy 57'); Fernandinho, De Bruyne (Gundogan 67'), D.Silva; Sane, Jesus, Sterling

HUDDERSFIELD (5-2-2-1): Lossl; Hadergjonaj, Schindler, Zanka, Smith, Kongolo; Mooy, Hogg; Lowe (Malone 78'), Pritchard (Van La Parra 82'); Mounie (Depoitre 59')
