Inter Milan announce the signing of Canadian midfielder Tajon Buchanan on a four-and-a-half year deal, beating Manchester City to the 24-year-old's signature.

Inter Milan have confirmed the signing of Canadian wide man Tajon Buchanan from Club Brugge.

The 24-year-old joins the Serie A leaders on a four-and-a-half-year deal until the end of the 2027-28 season, and Inter are believed to have paid a fixed fee of €7m (£6m), which could rise to €10m (£8.6m) with performance-related add-ons.

Buchanan leaves Club Brugge following a successful two-year spell in Belgium, where he scored five goals and provided 12 assists in 67 games as both a right midfielder and right-back.

"Hi Inter fans, it's Tajon Buchanan. I'm happy to finally be here and I can't wait to meet you all at San Siro," the former New England Revolution man told Inter's media channels.

Buchanan was largely deployed in a defensive role in the first half of the 2023-24 season, weighing in with three goals and four assists in 20 appearances, form which apparently attracted the attention of Manchester City.

However, Inter have won the race to capture the Canada international, who started all three games for the Canucks at the 2022 World Cup, providing an assist for Alphonso Davies in a 4-1 defeat to Croatia.

Buchanan arrives at San Siro as a replacement for Juan Cuadrado, who underwent surgery on an Achilles injury in December and is expected to spend at least a few months on the sidelines.

The 24-year-old could make his debut for Simone Inzaghi's side on Saturday morning, when they resume their quest for Serie A title glory at home to Hellas Verona. body check tags ::
