Manchester City winger Leroy Sane reportedly faces an uncertain future at the Etihad Stadium after being dropped by Pep Guardiola for Saturday's meeting with Newcastle United.
The Germany international, voted the PFA Young Player of the Year for 2017-18, was left out of the 18-man squad entirely for his side's 2-1 win.
According to The Sun, Guardiola omitted Sane due to some unimpressive displays in training, combined with his disappointing display from the bench against Wolverhampton Wanderers last weekend.
Explaining his decision after the match, Guardiola told reporters: "I took the decision for the way the opponent plays and what I saw every day. That is the reason.
"Of course, Leroy was so important for us and hopefully this season he will be. I have six strikers and sometimes I play with two, plus a winger and another on the bench. That's what I decided on today."
The same report indicates that the 22-year-old now faces a challenge winning back his place once club action resumes in a fortnight's time.
Sane spent the whole of pre-season with Man City, having been left out of Germany's World Cup squad.
