Paris Saint-Germain are reportedly set to beat Manchester City to the signing of Sporting Lisbon left-back Nuno Mendes this summer.

The Premier League champions were looking to sign the 19-year-old, but they were not prepared to pay his initial €50m (£43m) valuation.

According to journalist Fabrizio Romano, PSG have agreed to sign Mendes on loan for €7m (£6.1m) with an option to make the deal permanent next summer for €40m (£36.9m).

Paperwork has been signed by the player and his agent Miguel Pinho, and the deal is set to be completed in the next few hours.

Romano also reports that PSG and Sporting are in talks regarding a potential transfer that would see winger Pablo Sarabia join the Portuguese club.

Mendes has made 47 senior appearances for Sporting, scoring once and providing three assists, as well as featuring five times for the Portuguese national team. body check tags ::
