Manchester United have headed into half time in the first leg of their Champions League match against Bayern Munich level following a goalless first half at Old Trafford.
The home side thought that they had broken the deadlock after just four minutes when Danny Welbeck volleyed the ball into the back of the net, but the referee had already blown his whistle for a high challenge in the box by the winger.
The first chance for the visitors fell to Arjen Robben, but the former Chelsea player could only curl his effort wide following a quick break from midfield.
The Dutchman continued to frustrate the United defenders when he played Franck Ribery forward, who set up Thomas Muller for a shot. The Frenchman had a couple of attempts himself, but was unable to break the deadlock.
David de Gea was forced to make a save with just over half an hour played as Robben managed to break free of Michael Carrick before curling a strike towards goal, but the keeper kept it out.
Welbeck had another chance to add the opening goal of the night when he got the better of the Bayern defence with pace, leaving just Manuel Neuer to beat, but the visiting keeper tipped his finish away with his fingertips.
