Manchester United interim head coach Ralf Rangnick has said that Luke Shaw is in line to return to the squad for Tuesday's Champions League clash with Atletico Madrid.
Shaw missed the Manchester derby last weekend after testing positive for COVID-19, and he did not train with the Red Devils last week, with the left-back also set to be unavailable against Tottenham Hotspur in the Premier League on Saturday evening.
However, Rangnick has revealed that the England international "will be a candidate" to make his return against Atletico in the second leg of their last-16 contest at Old Trafford.
"Luke [Shaw] will still be out, until yesterday [Thursday], he was still testing positive [for Covid] even though he was negative today," Rangnick told MUTV.
"Without having trained and having some symptoms, it doesn't make sense to have him in the squad for this game. Hopefully, he will be a candidate for Tuesday but, for Saturday's game, he will be out."
David de Gea is also set to miss the Spurs match through illness, while Scott McTominay is a major doubt with a calf problem, but Cristiano Ronaldo and Edinson Cavani will both be back in the squad.
