Wayne Rooney has said that Manchester United's Champions League win over Olympiacos was a "great result" for the club.
Robin van Persie scored a hat-trick during the second leg at Old Trafford this evening to give the Premier League champions a 3-2 win on aggregate.
"We had a desire to win, and as you can hear from the fans now and against Liverpool they were fantastic and they deserved this," BBC Sport quotes the striker as saying.
"We owed ourselves [a result like this] and the fans, the manager, everyone. This a great result and hopefully it can kick start our season."
United are one of two English sides in the last eight, following Chelsea's victory over Galatasaray last night.
