Manchester United striker Wayne Rooney is reportedly close to returning to fitness in time for Wednesday's Champions League clash against Bayern Munich.
The England international missed the Red Devils' 4-0 win over Newcastle United on Saturday with a bruised toe.
Despite fears that the 28-year-old would be absent for the crucial encounter, manager David Moyes revealed over the weekend that the striker has stepped up his bid to recover by 'working hard' in a swimming pool in Manchester.
Following his fitness work, Rooney is on track to recover from his injury in order to play in the quarter-final second leg at the Allianz Arena in Munich, according to the Daily Mail.
The tie currently stands at 1-1 after the Bundesliga champions clinched a vital away goal at Old Trafford last week.
