Anthony Martial and Romelu Lukaku start up front as Manchester United welcome Basel in the Champions League.

Anthony Martial and Romelu Lukaku will start up front for Manchester United tonight as they welcome Basel in the first matchday of the Champions League.

In all, Jose Mourinho makes six changes from the starting XI that went on to claim a 2-2 draw at Stoke City in the Premier League three days ago, with Marcus Rashford starting on the bench after partnering Lukaku against the Potters.

Lukaku is expected to play in a lone striker role tonight, with Martial joining Henrikh Mkhitaryan and fellow returnee Juan Mata as attacking support for the Belgian, while Ander Herrera drops out of the matchday squad.

Paul Pogba takes the captain's armband tonight and partners Nemanja Matic in front of an all-new back four.

With first-choice centre-back partnership Phil Jones and Eric Bailly both suspended, Mourinho turns to Chris Smalling and summer signing Victor Lindelof, while Ashley Young is in for Antonio Valencia at right-back and Daley Blind replaces Matteo Darmian on the left.

As previously confirmed by Mourinho, David de Gea takes up position between the posts, with Sergio Romero on the bench despite being first choice during last season's Europa League-winning campaign.

For the visitors, Raphael Wicky makes two changes following the 2-1 defeat to Lausanne in the Swiss Super League on Saturday.

Striker Mohamed Elyounoussi is back in the fold, joining Renato Steffen and Ricky van Wolfswinkel in the frontline of a 3-4-3 formation as Kevin Bua drops to the bench.

Meanwhile, Serey Die has been ruled out with a foot injury, meaning that Eder Balanta comes into the left of a back three alongside Manuel Akanji and Marek Suchy, while Michael Lang, Blas Riveros, Taulant Xhaka and Luca Zuffi make up the midfield.

Manchester United: De Gea; Young, Smalling, Lindelof, Blind; Matic, Pogba; Mata, Mkhitaryan, Martial; Lukaku
