Manchester United will be bidding to record their first victory of their 2024-25 Europa League campaign when they head to Turkey on Thursday evening to tackle Jose Mourinho's Fenerbahce outfit.

The 20-time English champions have drawn their opening two matches in the league stage of the competition against FC Twente and Porto, which has left them down in 21st position in the table.

Fenerbahce, meanwhile, occupy 13th spot, having picked up four points from their opening two matches, recording a 2-1 victory over Union SG in their opener before drawing 1-1 away to Twente last time out.

Here, Sports Mole takes an in-depth look at the head-to-head record and previous meetings between the two sides ahead of their intriguing meeting in Istanbul on Thursday night.

Head-to-head record

Previous meetings: 6
Fenerbahce wins: 3
Draws: 0
Man Utd wins: 3

Man United have locked horns with Fenerbahce on six previous occasions, and both have posted three wins, with their first-ever clash taking place in the group stage of the Champions League back in October 1996.

The Red Devils were 2-0 winners on that occasion, with that success proving to be their only triumph in Turkey; David Beckham and Eric Cantona were on the scoresheet, while Fenerbahce had a certain Jay-Jay Okocha in their side.

The return match ended in a 1-0 victory for Fenerbahce, with the Turkish outfit securing a famous three points at Old Trafford courtesy of a late effort from Elvir Bolic.

The two sides then locked horns again in the group stage of the 2004-05 Champions League, and their clash on September 28 marked Wayne Rooney's debut, with the club's all-time leading goalscorer scoring a famous hat trick in a 6-2 victory for the Red Devils.

Fenerbahce won the reverse game 3-0 in Turkey, and that proved to be their last meeting in the Champions League, with their last two matches taking place in the group stage of the 2016-17 Europa League.

Man United won 4-1 at Old Trafford, with Paul Pogba netting twice, before losing the reverse game 2-1 in Turkey, with Moussa Sow and Jeremain Lens registering for the home side, before Rooney netted a late consolation for the 20-time English champions.

Fenerbahce have won their last two meetings with Man United on home soil, and the Red Devils will be looking to record just their second-ever away victory over the Istanbul giants when the two sides lock horns on Thursday night.
