How Manchester United could line up against AC Milan

Sports Mole takes an in-depth look at how Manchester United could line up for their Europa League last-16 second leg against AC Milan on Thursday

Manchester United manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer could be boosted by the returns of some key players for the second leg of their Europa League last-32 clash with AC Milan on Thursday.

The Norwegian had to make do without Edinson Cavani for the first leg through injury, and even though the Uruguayan was initially named in the travelling party, he has since pulled out and will not be involved.

Mason Greenwood should therefore be given the nod up top as Anthony Martial remains out as well, with Daniel James, Bruno Fernandes and Marcus Rashford likely to complete the attacking quartet.

Paul Pogba and Donny van de Beek are both on the plane for the journey too, but Fred and Scott McTominay are likely to continue in midfield for now, especially with Van de Beek supposedly keen to leave this summer.

McTominay will miss the first leg of the quarter-final if he is booked and United make it there, although he is unlikely to be dropped despite pressure from Nemanja Matic.

Harry Maguire and Victor Lindelof are also one booking away from a ban, but the duo will start in the heart of defence after Eric Bailly was left at home, while Luke Shaw may drop to the bench if Alex Telles earns a recall.

David de Gea has completed a period of isolation after returning to Spain for the birth of his child, but Dean Henderson should continue in goal, despite questions over whether he should have saved Simon Kjaer's late equaliser in the first leg.

Manchester United possible starting lineup:
Henderson; Wan-Bissaka, Maguire, Lindelof, Telles; Fred, McTominay; James, Fernandes, Rashford; Greenwood
