Bafetimbi Gomis hits the post as Swansea City and Manchester United miss good chances to break the deadlock in the Premier League clash at Liberty Stadium.

Swansea City and Manchester United are scoreless at the break after an action-packed first half saw both sides miss good opportunities to take the lead.

The visitors started brightly and had two good chances to take the lead inside the opening three minutes, first when Lukasz Fabianski got down well to save Memphis Depay's free kick, before Juan Mata could not find the target after being teed up by Wayne Rooney.

Swansea found a foothold in the game shortly afterwards, however, but they could not turn a period of good pressure into a meaningful chance in front of goal.

United should have taken the lead midway through the half when Ander Herrera, making his first Premier League start of the season, fed Mata, but the former Chelsea man dragged wide from a good position.

The home side had a superb opportunity of their own to make the breakthrough when Andre Ayew sent Bafetimbi Gomis through on goal, but the striker fired comfortably wide of the post.

That chance signalled the start of an excellent period for Swansea, but the Welsh side failed to capitalise when Gylfi Sigurdsson found space inside the box but could only shoot narrowly wide.

Sergio Romero then almost gifted the Swans a goal when his poor kick fell straight to Shelvey, who just could not get enough power in his volley, before Gomis nearly scored a stunning opener when he beat three United defenders but could only poke his effort off the post with Romero beaten.

Rooney failed to beat Fabianski with a chip as Louis van Gaal's side regrouped and Herrera fired wide from distance as the sides went into the interval level.
