Manchester United attacker Mason Mount has revealed that he will miss "a few games" due to the issue that forced him off the field against Brighton & Hove Albion in the Premier League last weekend.

Mount was substituted at the interval of the game with the Seagulls, and head coach Erik ten Hag revealed after the clash that the number seven had reported a fitness issue.

"It was forced," Ten Hag told reporters when asked about the change. "He mentioned an issue and I don't want to take the risk with him.

"I don't know how much of a worry it is, I can't say at this moment. But I think, when we have the good bench, and we can bring in [Joshua] Zirkzee, then don't hesitate. Bring Mount off and bring [on] a player who can have an impact."

Mount has now revealed that he has suffered a fresh blow, with the attacker, who struggled with injury issues throughout his first season at Old Trafford, facing a spell on the sidelines.

Mount reveals fresh injury setback

"During the last game I picked up a minor muscle issue," Mount posted on social media.

"I've had it checked and it looks like I'll be out for a few games. Leading up to and during pre-season, I worked hard to get my fitness back to where it needs to be and I felt re-energised, sharp and ready.

"I wanted you to hear it directly from me how frustrated I am, as I expect you are too. I will do everything possible to be back in the best shape and help the team."

Mount only managed 20 appearances for Man United last season following his arrival from Chelsea, scoring once and providing one assist, but he had started both of the club's league games this term, in addition to the Community Shield against Manchester City on August 10.

Which other Man United players are currently injured?

Mount is one of six Man United players currently on the sidelines, with the Red Devils suffering more fitness problems in the early stages of the 2024-25 campaign.

Luke Shaw and Rasmus Hojlund will again be absent against Liverpool on Sunday, but there is a chance that the pair could return to action after the international break against Southampton.

Tyrell Malacia is a long-term absentee due to a serious knee injury, while new signing Leny Yoro will not be back until the start of November due to a fractured metatarsal.

Victor Lindelof has also been sidelined early in the season due to a toe problem, and there remains speculation surrounding the centre-back's future ahead of the closing of the summer transfer window. body check tags ::
