Manchester United have announced that they will be without the services of Luke Shaw for a number of weeks, with the player suffering a muscle injury.

The 28-year-old has played 90 minutes in each of United's opening two Premier League fixtures, and is the club's first-choice at left-back given his fitness.

Shaw was unable to help the Red Devils to a historic win at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium on Saturday evening, when Erik ten Hag's men were beaten 2-0 by Ange Postecoglou's Tottenham Hotspur.

The defender joined United back in June 2014 from Southampton, and has since featured 262 times for the Old Trafford club, scoring four goals over a nine-year period.

"Manchester United defender Luke Shaw has sustained an injury which will rule him out of forthcoming games," read a statement published to the club's official website.

"The muscle issue is still being assessed but the England left-back is expected to be out of action for a number of weeks."

Shaw is set to be out of action for a period of time due to a muscle injury picked up this week as United prepare for their next league match.

Man United are still assessing the full extent of the issue, however they supposedly understand that the left-back will be sidelined for a couple of weeks minimum.

It is also understood that Shaw's injury is set to see him miss England's international camp in September, meaning that he will be unable to feature in games against Ukraine and Scotland.

Ten Hag now has a selection headache at left-back ahead of this weekend, with Tyrell Malacia also out of action, leaving Man United without a recognised option in that position.

Youngster Brandon Williams could have featured, however he secured a move to Championship outfit Ipswich Town earlier this week on a season-long loan deal.

Man United also have injury concerns elsewhere on the pitch, with new arrival Mason Mount out until after the international break, meaning that he will miss his side's next two matches.

Rasmus Hojlund is yet to make his debut for the club since joining from Atalanta BC in this summer's transfer window, however the Dane could return from a back injury to face Nottingham Forest at Old Trafford this weekend.

Diogo Dalot could be set to fill in at left-back for the visit of Steve Cooper's Tricky Trees to Manchester, with the Portuguese currently being kept out of the side at right-back by Aaron Wan-Bissaka. body check tags ::
