Manchester United have revealed that Mason Mount trained individually on Wednesday morning, with the attacker stepping up his recovery from injury.

The 24-year-old arrived at Old Trafford from Chelsea during the summer transfer window, and he has featured on 12 occasions for the club in all competitions, providing one assist.

Mount has struggled with injuries during the early stages of his Red Devils career, though, missing a chunk of action earlier this season due to a muscular problem, while he has been out with his latest issue, which is thought to be related to his calf, since November 11.

The England international has been absent for his side's last seven Premier League games, in addition to their final two matches in the group stage of the Champions League.

However, Red Devils head coach Erik ten Hag recently said that Mount was on course to recover by the middle of January, hinting at a return against Tottenham Hotspur.

On Wednesday, Man United confirmed that Mount was back on the grass at the club's Carrington training complex, with the midfielder stepping up his rehabilitation.

The Englishman could again be absent for the FA Cup clash with Wigan Athletic on January 8 but might return alongside the likes of Casemiro and Lisandro Martinez against Spurs on January 14.

Tyrell Malacia, Victor Lindelof, Harry Maguire and Amad Diallo are also currently on the sidelines, while Anthony Martial has recently been absent due to illness.

Luke Shaw and Sofyan Amrabat both face a battle to be available for the clash with Nottingham Forest on Saturday, having missed out against Aston Villa on Boxing Day with minor injuries.

Amrabat will be missing in January, having been named in the Morocco squad for the Africa Cup of Nations, while Andre Onana has also been selected to represent Cameroon.

As a result, Altay Bayindir is set to be given a run between the sticks for the 20-time English champions.

Jadon Sancho has not featured for the Red Devils since the end of August due to his falling-out with Ten Hag, and the Englishman is set to leave in January.

Man United continue to be linked with new signings ahead of the opening of the January market, but any business that takes place next month will need to be signed off by incoming minority shareholder Sir Jim Ratcliffe, who has agreed to purchase 25% of the club.
