Mick McCarthy admits that he may turn to his more experienced players for Ipswich Town's League Cup tie away at Manchester United.

Ipswich Town manager Mick McCarthy has conceded that he may put out a full-strength side for their trip to Manchester United in the third round of the League Cup next month.

McCarthy used a number of his fringe and youth players during last night's 4-1 win over Stevenage in the second round of the competition.

Speaking straight after the final whistle, McCarthy insisted that he would not change the team at Old Trafford, but having had more time to reflect on the encounter, he has since admitted that some "senior" players may be needed.

"It's a fabulous tie. I'm delighted. I look forward to that and so will our fans. We had 700 tonight and there will be a lot more at Old Trafford, that's for sure," he told the club's official website.

"I've just answered a question in the press conference 'will I stick with the kids?' I said 'yes', but I'm not so sure now. We might need a few more of the senior ones."

The Tractor Boys have not won away at United since a 2-1 victory in May 1984.
