Phil Jones has been named on the Manchester United bench for Wednesday evening's EFL Cup third-round contest against West Ham United at Old Trafford.
The centre-back has not made a competitive appearance for the Red Devils since January 2020, with a persistent knee problem forcing the Englishman to miss a lot of football.
Jones has been featuring in behind-closed-doors fixtures for Man United, though, in addition to appearing for the club's Under-23s during a long period of recovery.
The 29-year-old has now been named on the bench for Wednesday's League Cup clash against the Hammers.
Jones, who still has two years left to run on his contract with the 20-time English champions, has made 224 appearances for Man United in all competitions since arriving from Blackburn Rovers in July 2011.
Head coach Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has rung the changes for the League Cup clash, with Dean Henderson, Alex Telles, Donny van de Beek, Juan Mata and Anthony Martial among the starters for the home side.
