Manchester United head coach Erik ten Hag has said that Anthony Martial will be involved in Thursday's EFL Cup clash with Aston Villa, but Jadon Sancho and Antony remain doubts.

Martial has struggled with a number of fitness problems this term, but he did feature for the final 25 minutes of Sunday's 3-1 loss to Villa in the Premier League.

Ten Hag has said that the 26-year-old is now set to play more minutes against Unai Emery's side on Thursday evening, with the Red Devils looking for revenge against the team that beat them at the weekend.

However, Sancho and Antony remain fitness doubts for the 20-time English champions.

Sancho, who is set to miss out on a spot in the England squad for the World Cup, has been unavailable for selection since the end of last month due to illness.

Antony, meanwhile, has missed the team's last three matches due to a hip problem.

The 22-year-old has been named in the Brazil squad for the World Cup, but he remains a doubt for his side's next two games against Villa and Fulham ahead of the break.

"An injuries update? Yeah, there are some players coming back and also some question marks. As you have seen, Anthony Martial, for the last 20 minutes, was back at Villa, so we are happy with that and we hope he can continue this tomorrow. He will be in the squad, we have to see, but he will have minutes, definitely, if he has recovered," said Ten Hag at Wednesday's press conference, which saw him take questions from supporters.

"Yesterday, we had a day off so, tonight, we have final training and then we will see. I think he's capable to play for minutes. On the rest, Jadon Sancho, we have to wait, and Antony, we have to wait, today, on final training."

Ten Hag has revealed that he will make changes on Thursday evening, but the Dutchman has vowed to select a strong side, with the Red Devils looking to progress to the fourth round of the EFL Cup.

"First of all, all the games that we play, we have only one aim. We have to win. So that is the most important. We have to win, so we put the best players on the pitch we have," he added.

"For every game, we make a proper plan for the line-up and tomorrow is the same. Of course, we have a lot of games to cover and this is a different competition. We plan some changes but want to play a strong team. We have only one aim: we have to win tomorrow, to go to the next round."

As well as having doubts over Antony and Sancho, Raphael Varane, Brandon Williams and Axel Tuanzebe will miss Thursday's match for the Red Devils through injury.

Man United's final game ahead of the break for the World Cup will be against Fulham at Craven Cottage on Sunday afternoon. body check tags ::
