Luke Shaw has said that it was a 'team effort' from Manchester United to keep Erling Braut Haaland quiet in Saturday's Manchester derby at Old Trafford.
Haaland found it difficult to make his mark in the Premier League affair, with the Norway international restricted to a few half-chances during the contest.
Manchester City took the lead on the hour through Jack Grealish, but Bruno Fernandes levelled the scores in the 78th minute before Marcus Rashford hit the winner four minutes later.
Shaw was again selected in the middle of the defence, with the England international being used in that area of the field since returning from the 2022 World Cup.
The 27-year-old has said that stopping Haaland was not just down to himself and Raphael Varane, with the whole team playing a vital role in keeping him quiet.
"We're very happy, I think we deserved to win. In the first half, we had a lot of chances and on another day, we take them," Shaw told MUTV. "Extremely proud of the team and everyone out on the field today, they gave everything.
"Especially the ones that came on and influenced the game, it's a massive help when they're ready and can make an impact. It's not just about me and Raphael [Varane], it's about the whole team (stopping Haaland). We defended so, so well.
"It was a great game to be involved in. The most important thing was the three points, no matter who the players we are up against are, we always aim for three points and keep climbing the table.
"We did that today and I'm very happy. As I said, we created a lot of chances and we knew we would get more. It's all about belief and after Fernandes' goal, we felt the fans even more.
"They pushed us on, we got the second goal and it was an amazing atmosphere."
Lisandro Martinez, Harry Maguire and Victor Lindelof were all on the bench against Man City, but Martinez and Maguire were introduced as late substitutes in the derby.
Ahead of the match against Man City, Ten Hag explained his thinking behind selecting Shaw in the middle of the defence once again.
"The last couple of games, a lot of clean sheets," he told MUTV. "[Shaw and Varane played] really well together. Also take into account that Licha Martinez returned from the World Cup and didn't have a lot of games; 90 minutes, he had Charlton, but really big games.
"It was four weeks ago at the World Cup. So, I think for 90 minutes, it's a lot, but he can contribute, he is ready to come in. I think also, the tactical [side] fits really good with the physical with [Erling] Haaland, [Kevin] De Bruyne, to go full-back, full-back, Luke Shaw is perfect. He's a good build-up player as well."
Man United will be bidding to make it 10 wins in a row in all competitions when they travel to Crystal Palace in the Premier League on Wednesday night. body check tags ::
