Crystal Palace defender Gary Cahill has admitted that he could have been sent off during this afternoon's famous win over Manchester United at Old Trafford.
The 33-year-old, who was making his debut for the Eagles following his summer move, brought Anthony Martial down on the edge of the area when he was the last man, only to be spared his marching orders as referee Paul Tierney showed him a yellow card.
Palace's 11 men went on to record their first-ever Premier League victory over the Red Devils, although Cahill acknowledged that he could have seen red for his challenge.
"I was not nervous but I was not sure if it should have been a red card. It felt 50-50 between us both," Cahill told BBC Sport.
"It was a fantastic result, we had to dig in, we had to go hard. We did that and the counter at the end was fantastic.
"We needed a reaction after the game. We worked very hard, we had a bit of luck with the penalty miss but I think we deserve it."
Palace looked to have been denied their first win of the season when Daniel James struck an 89th-minute equaliser for the hosts, only for Patrick van Aanholt to net three minutes into stoppage time.
