Jonny Evans's actions in spitting at Papiss Cisse were "simply disgusting", according to the Football Association panel that found the Manchester United defender guilty.
The 27-year-old denied spitting at the Newcastle United striker during the Red Devils' 1-0 win over the Magpies on March 4, but was nevertheless given a six-match ban.
The written reasons for the punishment given to Evans and Cisse were released by the FA on Thursday.
The three-man panel is quoted by BBC Sport as saying: "The ordinary man in the street will find his action to be simply disgusting. It should not be allowed in any walk of life, let alone any football field."
Cisse, who accepted the original charge, will miss seven games through suspension for his part in the incident.
