Rio Ferdinand has insisted that it is "pointless" and "a waste of time" to compare the current Manchester United team with those from previous eras.
Despite the fact that the current side wrapped up the Premier League title with four games to spare last night, a number of pundits believe that the squad is nowhere near as strong as ones that have been built by Sir Alex Ferguson in the past.
However, Ferdinand has opted to ignore such talk and has instead claimed that he is more interested in winning trophies.
"I think it is pointless trying to compare teams because it is different eras," Ferdinand told MUTV. "It makes good pub talk and good media talk, but for us, it is neither here nor there – it's about winning.
"We're going to have a winners' medal by the end of the season and we are delighted about that. To compare us is a waste of time. We respect all of the teams that have gone before us, but we just want to be part of this club's history."
Ferdinand has now won the Premier League on six occasions.
