Sir Alex Ferguson doesn't anticipate diving crackdown

Sir Alex Ferguson feels that UEFA and FIFA will not introduce harsher punishments for players found guilty of diving.

Manchester United boss Sir Alex Ferguson does not believe that football's governing bodies will crack down on diving within the game.

United and in particular Ashley Young have been at the centre of several diving controversies in recent weeks and Ferguson yesterday revealed that he has 'had a word' with the England international about going to ground too easily.

These incidents have led to calls for disciplinary action to be taken against those players who are found guilty of diving, but Ferguson does not feel that is realistic.

"The only one case I can remember of a player being retrospectively punished was Rivaldo. I can't remember another player ever being punished for acting," said Ferguson.

"It doesn't lie with the clubs, it is FIFA and UEFA. But there are a load of things we ask them for, including goal-line technology, and nothing's ever done.

"It doesn't bother me one way or the other, because I don't think it will happen."
