Manchester United manager has admitted that he is hoping Nick Powell will become Paul Scholes's long-term replacement at Old Trafford.
Powell marked his senior debut for the Red Devils with a goal during their 4-0 victory over Wigan Athletic at the weekend.
With reports rife that 37-year-old Scholes will call time on his career at the end of the season, Ferguson has revealed that he sees 18-year-old Powell as the player to fill the void.
"Nick Powell is going to be a good player who, we hope, will fill Paul Scholes's boots in terms of he's got terrific vision, good temperament, two great feet, is quick and strikes the ball well," the boss told reporters.
Powell himself admitted that he was "scared" ahead of his first outing.
