Sir Alex Ferguson: "We were unlucky to lose"

Manchester United boss Sir Alex Ferguson insists that his side were unlucky to be edged 2-1 in the derby by Roberto Mancini's Manchester City side at Old Trafford.

Manchester United manager Sir Alex Ferguson has insisted that his side were unlucky to suffer a disappointing 2-1 defeat to local rivals Manchester City last night.

Sergio Aguero's late strike proved enough to earn Roberto Mancini's side an impressive victory at Old Trafford, cutting the deficit at the top of the Premier League table to 12 points.

Ferguson revealed that the most annoying aspect of his side's performance was the manner in which his side conceded at crucial times.

He told BBC Sport: "It wasn't a bad performance by us, so I'm not disappointed in that respect, but I'm disappointed with the goals we gave away.

"For the first goal I thought their player [Carlos Tevez] was offside and interfering with play by standing in front of David de Gea.

"I think we were unlucky to lose the game. But it is easy to see why these were the best two teams in the country, the evidence was there tonight."

United need 10 points from their last seven games to clinch Ferguson's 13th Premier League title as the Red Devils boss.
