Mason Greenwood has reportedly expressed a desire to return for Manchester United 'as soon as possible'.

The 21-year-old is technically now available to resume his football career, having seen all criminal charges facing him dropped.

Greenwood was initially arrested last January on suspicion of rape and assault following accusations from a woman, and he was then further arrested on suspicion of sexual assault and threats to kill.

The England international was also facing charges of attempted rape, engaging in controlling and coercive behaviour, and assault occasioning actual bodily harm, with a trial date set for November 2023, but it was recently announced that all charges had been dropped.

Man United are currently investigating the situation, with the Red Devils considering all options open to them, which include terminating his contract, selling him, loaning him out for the 2023-24 campaign, or bringing him back into the first-team set-up under Erik ten Hag.

There has allegedly been a host of interest from Turkish clubs in the forward, with Man United rejecting a series of offers in recent weeks.

Greenwood has a contract at Old Trafford until June 2025, with the option of a further 12 months, and he was regarded as one of the best young talents in Europe before his arrest.

The attacker has scored 35 goals and registered 12 assists in 129 appearances for the Red Devils since debuting in 2018, and he is believed to have met up with some of his teammates and held discussions with head coach Ten Hag since the charges were dropped.

According to the Daily Mail, Greenwood has told Man United that he is ready to return 'as soon as possible', with the Englishman determined to get his career back on track.

However, the report claims that the player will not be back in training until next season if he is indeed allowed to continue his career with the 20-time English champions.

There is believed to be contrasting opinions among senior officials at Man United, in addition to staff members and first-team players, placing the club in a difficult position.

A recent report claimed that Greenwood could potentially face a TV interview, where he would be challenged on the events leading up to his arrest.

The views of sponsors and fan groups, in addition to the club's women's team, will also allegedly be taken into consideration when it comes to Man United's final decision.

Greenwood has been with Man United since the age of six, progressing through the various youth sides before making his first-team debut in March 2019. body check tags ::
