Manchester United will be looking to make it 24 Premier League away matches unbeaten against Aston Villa when they head to Villa Park on Sunday afternoon.

The 20-time English champions have won 15 and drawn eight of their last 23 league fixtures away from home against Villa, which is the longest unbeaten away run one side has had against another in the history of the English league.

Not since August 1995 have Man United lost at Villa Park in England's top flight, with Ian Taylor, Mark Draper and Dwight Yorke on the scoresheet for the home side in that fixture, while David Beckham registered for Sir Alex Ferguson's team.

The points were shared in a 2-2 draw in the corresponding fixture at Villa Park during the 2021-22 Premier League campaign, with Bruno Fernandes scoring twice for the visitors.

Man United actually led 2-0 approaching the latter stages of the game with Villa last time out, but Jacob Ramsey and Philippe Coutinho struck late to secure a share of the spoils for Steven Gerrard's side.

Villa beat Man United at Old Trafford in the league last season, meanwhile, with Kortney Hause's late header proving to be the difference between the two sides.

In December 2009, Villa also won 1-0 away to Man United, which proved to be their first success over the Red Devils since the home victory in August 1995.

Throughout history, Man United have also dominated the match, recording 102 victories over Villa, who have posted 50 wins themselves, with the other 41 games finishing all square.

The match will mark the start of Unai Emery's reign as Villa head coach, with the Spaniard officially presented by the club on Friday afternoon.

Villa began life after Gerrard with a 4-0 home success over Brentford on October 23, but they then suffered a 4-0 defeat to Newcastle United in the league last weekend.

A total of 12 points from 13 matches has left them down in 16th spot in the Premier League table, and they are preparing for two games against Man United in quick succession, with the two sides also locking horns at Old Trafford in the EFL Cup next Thursday.

Man United, meanwhile, will enter the match off the back of a 1-0 win over Real Sociedad in the Europa League.

The success was ultimately not enough for Erik ten Hag's side to advance automatically to the knockout round of the competition, but they are now unbeaten in their last nine games in all competitions.

The Red Devils recorded a 1-0 victory over West Ham United in the league last weekend, and they currently sit fifth in the table, one point behind fourth-placed Newcastle. body check tags ::
