Manchester United still view Ryan Giggs as the club's next manager, according to a report.
There has been widespread speculation over the last few weeks that Jose Mourinho is in line to take over from Louis van Gaal in the summer.
However, The Mirror claims that United are prepared to honour the promise they made former winger Giggs when he agreed to become part of Van Gaal's coaching staff in 2014.
The report adds that the Welshman is viewed by those that hold the power at Old Trafford as being more suited to the club's long-term vision than Mourinho.
Despite rumours to the contrary, it is now suggested that the Red Devils have held no talks with Mourinho or his agent Jorge Mendes.
Giggs, 44, had a four-game stint in caretaker charge of United towards the end of the 2013-14 campaign following the sacking of David Moyes.
