Juan Mata could reportedly be offered a coaching role by Manchester United if the experienced attacker decides to retire from professional football this summer.
The 33-year-old's contract at Old Trafford is due to expire at the end of June, and he is unlikely to sign an extension with the club, having only made four appearances in all competitions this term.
Mata has not played a single minute of Premier League football in 2021-22, with his last outing for the club coming against Middlesbrough in the FA Cup on February 4.
A number of La Liga clubs are believed to be interested in signing the playmaker on a free transfer ahead of the 2022-23 campaign.
However, according to The Sun, if Mata decides to hang up his boots this summer then he could be offered the chance to stay at Man United as a coach.
The report claims that the Spaniard has already started taking his coaching badges, and there is a belief that he could potentially 'follow a similar pathway as Mikel Arteta and move into coaching or management.'
Mata has scored 51 times and registered 47 assists in 277 appearances for Man United since arriving from Chelsea in January 2014. body check tags ::
