Phil Neville: 'Paul Pogba can be best in Europe'

Paul Pogba is "the best midfielder in Europe on his day", says former Manchester United defender Phil Neville.

Paul Pogba is "the best midfielder in Europe on his day", according to former Manchester United defender Phil Neville.

Pogba left Juventus to re-join United in the summer of 2016 but has largely struggled for consistency during the last 18 months.

The 25-year-old was left out of the starting XI in the latter stages of Jose Mourinho's tenure, but he has been outstanding in United's two matches under the leadership of interim boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.

Pogba scored twice in United's 3-1 win over Huddersfield Town on Boxing Day, and Neville has tipped the midfielder to go from strength to strength in the coming months.

"They had the best player on the pitch and probably the best midfielder in Europe on his day in Paul Pogba who has had a disappointing, horrendous last 18 months at the club because of the fall-out with the manager," Neville told BBC Sport.

"It looked like the shackles were off, playing with that freedom of expression, anything is possible type attitude, playing with arrogance. The passing was back to his best.

"Look, he is the best player at the club when he is at his best and with performances like this he should be a 12-15 goal a season person - he hasn't been that in his career so far but he can be."

United will look to make it three straight Premier League wins when they host Bournemouth this weekend.
