Manchester United midfielder Scott McTominay has said that scoring a late brace against Brentford on Saturday was 'one of his favourite moments on a football pitch'.

The Red Devils trailed 1-0 to the Bees into stoppage time and were staring at a third successive home loss in all competitions, which would have piled the pressure on head coach Erik ten Hag.

However, McTominay managed to level the scores in the third minute of added time at the end of the 90 before coming up with the winner in the 97th minute, as he headed home from close range to make it 2-1.

The Scotland international was heavily linked with a move away from Old Trafford over the summer, but he came up trumps for the home side on Saturday afternoon and revealed his delight after the contest.

"That might be one of my favourite moments on a football pitch. Two goals at the death was incredible, but I am just happy to be able to contribute and show people that I can do it," the midfielder told Premier League Productions.

"Massive (win). Everyone knows we are in a difficult period at the minute, but we have fighters in the group that want to keep going right until the end.

"It could have been anyone on that pitch scoring the two goals. Really pleased and hopefully we can build on that from here.

"Sometimes we feel like we are in our own bubble with people outside only saying negative things, but we just have to block that out and be better after the international break.

"When the ball dropped to me it was at an awwkard height and I didn't think I could get my leg there, control it and score.

"As I said we wanted to get into their box more as the game went on. But they are a really good team, defended well, and are dangerous on the counter attack. Eventually we got the goals.

"No nerves. Just never give up no matter the situation. At this football club it is demanded that you never throw the towel in, for me I have been brought up here since I was five, I know that better than anyone."

McTominay was an unused substitute against both Crystal Palace and Galatasaray in the two matches before the clash with Brentford, which ended in defeats for Ten Hag's side.

The 26-year-old's long-term future at Old Trafford remains unclear, and there is again likely to be speculation surrounding his future in 2024 unless he can work his way back into the side on a regular basis. body check tags ::
