Luke Shaw: 'Manchester United's fringe players can step up for Arsenal clash'

Luke Shaw believes that it is time for Manchester United's fringe players to "step up" due to the growing injury list in the first team.

Manchester United left-back Luke Shaw believes that the squad's fringe players will now have their chance to show their worth following a string of injuries suffered to the club's first-team stars.

The Red Devils will head to the Emirates on Saturday to take on Arsenal with a number of players, including Daley Blind and Marcos Rojo, on the treatment table.

Angel di Maria is also a doubt for the trip due to a foot injury that he picked up during Argentina's 1-0 defeat to Portugal at Old Trafford earlier this week.

"I think it's time for people to step up," Goal.com quotes Shaw as saying. "The players who are not getting game time, who are frustrated on the bench, can come in for a massive game like Arsenal that everyone will want to play in.

"We know we've picked up a lot of injuries, especially in defence, where it's always changing each time. We've obviously picked up another injury with Daley Blind, but we've got to deal with that and try to get around this week and go firing into the Arsenal game."

Shaw has also had his injury concerns ahead of the match after picking up a knock during England's 3-1 triumph over Scotland on Tuesday night.
