Manchester United head coach Erik ten Hag said that he had "a great night" with Sir Alex Ferguson when asked about the recent meeting with the legendary manager.

Earlier this week, Ten Hag and Ferguson were pictured having dinner together in a Cheshire restaurant, with the Red Devils preparing for two big matches against Barcelona and Newcastle United.

On Thursday, Man United will welcome Barcelona for the second leg of their Europa League knockout round playoff, with the tie delicately poised following a 2-2 draw in the first leg.

The 20-time English champions will then take on Newcastle United in the EFL Cup final on Sunday, with Ten Hag looking to win his first trophy since arriving as head coach.

The Dutchman has opened up on the valuable meeting with Ferguson, who is one of the most successful managers in the history of the sport.

The 81-year-old was in charge of Man United between 1986 and 2013, winning 13 Premier League titles, five FA Cups, four League Cups and two Champions League trophies.

Ten Hag was asked about the dinner with Ferguson ahead of Thursday's huge clash with Barcelona.

"It's massive. I always enjoy it, to speak with people who have a lot of knowledge, a lot of experience," Ten Hag told reporters during Wednesday's press conference.

"He wants to share it, he wants to help, he wants to support. You feel Manchester United is his club, he feels so committed. He wants [to see] that we are doing well.

"It was a great night and I look forward to the next night with him."

Ten Hag was appointed Man United head coach last May, and the Dutchman has a record of 27 wins, five draws and six defeats from his 38 matches at the helm.

The 53-year-old arrived at Old Trafford off the back of winning three Eredivisie titles and two Dutch Cups during an impressive period at Ajax.

As well as bidding for success in the Europa League and EFL Cup, Man United are in the fifth round of the FA Cup, while they are third in the Premier League table, five points behind leaders Arsenal. body check tags ::
